May 27, 2017 marked the return of the Rooks' Spring Partner Fashion Show! Since we only had two pairs of participants, we changed-up the rules at the last minute to truly see who had the STYLE to PROFILE some SWEET DIGS!
The contest pit Juun (on Sylazune) and Shamz (on Boomhauer) vs. Odegra (main) and Hec (on Mastoblasto)!
Round 1 was CASUAL WEAR, Round 2 was FORMAL WEAR, and Round 3 was BATTLE GEAR.
In the end, it was a VERY close contest with Juun and Shamz taking the CASUAL round (2/3 judge votes) and Degs and Hec taking the FORMAL round (2/3 judge votes). It was ALL TIED UP going into the third and final round!
Degs and Hec SWEPT the third and final round with 3/3 judge votes and were declared the winners! They were each given a $20 Battle.net Gift Card ($40 total) to spend as they wish on the Blizzard Store!
Juun and Shamz did not leave empty-handed as they were each given 20k gold (40k gold total).
All in all, it was a fun night... lots of laughs as accompanying pets got into the biscuits and Atilakai and Meltharia played hosts.
THANKS to EVERYONE who attended to cheer on their favorite couples! If you feel so inclined, be sure to DONATE to the Guild PayPal Account to help support events like these, as well as our annual bills to Ventrilo and our Rooks.net website! No obligation, but every little bit does help! Check out our Donation link at http://www.therooks.net.
It's been awhile since we've updated the News section of this site. The fact of the matter is that we have moved a majority of our out-of-game online communication to our Facebook Group. If you are a current Rook and are not a member of our Facebook Group, please CLICK HERE and request to join. Please be sure to let me know your in-game character name when you request to join so that we can add you immediately.
Rooks have been busy the past few months! Here are some of our achievements, both in-game and out-of-game:
We cleared both Normal and Heroic Emerald Nightmare late last year.
We cleared Normal Trial of Valor in January.
We had a real-life gathering in St. Louis the last weekend in January to celebrate Juun's 30th birthday!
Stubs was able to retire from the Navy with full benefits!
We cleared Normal Nighthold in late February/early March.
Bolverk was stationed in Norfolk to finish out his duty in the Navy.
Jaxom's gnomelette is getting big!
Atilakai took a 2-week break from the game to prepare for a high-stakes accreditation site visit. His team passed with FLYING COLORS! Congrats!
Shamz and Juun are getting married in Disney World in October! Atilakai is officiating the ceremony!
We cleared Heroic Trial of Valor in April.
We have had a few in-game gatherings, most noteably our trip to World's End Tavern to hear the Tauren Chieftens!
Many Rooks have earned Legion Flying, which has made things so much easier!
We are currently 9/10 Heroic in Nighthold. We just need to get Gul'dan! His days are numbered!
I'm sure there are many more... if you're a Rook and had a "real life" achievement and wish to post it here, let me know! At the same time, if I've missed any in-game cheese, let me know that, too!
As I've shared with many of you during both sober Ventrilo conversations and drunken, Disney-karaoke conversations, many of us have played on various servers and with different types and groups of people. There's something very special about this Guild. People leave, but they always seem to come back. I appreciate each of you for bringing something special to our Warcraft Family. Here's to many more years together!
Loyalty! Integrity! Selflessness! These are the core values of a Rook!
Be excellent to each other! And party on, dudes!
Yours in Service,
Grand Vizier Atilakai St. Croix of the Alliance Grand Master of the Order of the Rook
With the holiday season upon us, there will likely be Guildies AFK to spend time out-of-game visiting friends and relatives. For some Rooks, that may mean only logging on sporadically to catch up on World Quests or Order Hall shenanigans.
I know many of you know this because this describes you... the reason for this post is to remind everyone that Rooks has always stood for and celebrated both group AND solitary play. If you openly ask to group with folks in G-Chat and you don't get a response, please do not take it personally. It's likely that Guildies are busy catching up after being AFK for a bit. This certainly isn't an excuse to ignore people, especially our WoW Family... but a gentle reminder to be a little more understanding and practice patience over the next six weeks.
I consider myself extremely fortunate to play with such an awesome group of people... I really appreciate each of you for what you bring to the game. In one way or another, each and every one of you has brought me joy in-game and enhanced my life in some way out-of-game. Thank you for being you, Rooks!
Congrats to all of the Rooks Raiders who cleared Emerald Nightmare on Normal Mode! We're among the first Guilds on our server to clear! Woo-hoo!
As for Heroics, after we stripped down to a bare-bones group of 10, we got the first boss down to 1%! I hate that not everyone could keep going, but with the way raids work now, the bigger the group, the more HP and damage the boss puts out, which means if we have a large group, we need not only a minimum item level, but a mininum damage and healing output to mathematically kill the boss within the enrage timer. The goal is to work to get everyone geared and ready for Heroics! It's going to take time and effort, but we want everyone to experience Heroic raiding who wants to... keep working on gear and research the fights and your rotations! It'll be no time before we storm into the Emerald Nightmare with a large group and destroy those bosses!
We'll be running a fresh Normal mode again on Tuesday. Same minimum ilvl of 835. We hope you can join us and get some shiny loots!
At 1:36AM on Monday, August 15, 2016, Bridgette Massenburg, better known in Rooks as the Human Mage Xarisse, passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 44. Surviving are her mother, Shirley Massenburg, as well as many other friends, family members, and Guildies in both Rooks on Twisting Nether and Hardcore Casuals on Shandris.
Xarisse joined us from WOW First Ward during Mists of Pandaria and quickly moved up the ranks to officer and served as an Exectutor for several years.
She had a beautiful spirit and infectious sense of humor. Truly, our raids into the Siege of Orgrimmar would not have been the same without her. She helped to coin the code phrase "Hot Cocoa" for Atilakai's favorite adult beverage of Dr. Pepper and Captain Morgan, but nothing will top her shouts of "GET YOUR NOODLES!" when she'd activate her Noodle Cart to feed our raids and enable our food buffs. She laughed with us, cried with us, and made us all feel so special.
Xarisse would often have her mother sit and watch her play WoW with an open Vent... she used to say that her mother found so much joy in listening to us all interact and play with one another... tease and sing... joke and laugh... and curse in frustration after the 125th failed Garrosh attempt. She was one-of-a-kind.
From now through next Monday, we will be accepting PayPal donations to send a gift in her memory to her surviving family members. Please click the link at the bottom-right to contribute.
In addition, we are planning an in-game memorial service. At this time, her alts will be removed from the Guild, but her main, Xarisse, will be set to the Evocatus rank where she will remain forever.
